Dear guests, welcome to our island…

Today we celebrate May Day!

You can join young and old people who gather flowers to make wreaths. The wreaths are hung on the house doors and balconies until 24th June, when, on the celebration of Agios Ioannis Klidonas, they are thrown into the bonfires which are lit in the village squares.

May day in Pyrgos

If you want to join the locals for the May Day celebrations, you can go to the central
square of Pyrgos at 11.30 in the morning. There you can watch the dancing groups of the “Estia Cultural Association”, while the children will create their own flower wreaths. Have fun!
TIP: We suggest you combine the May Day celebrations at Pyrgos with a carefree stroll through the narrow paved streets and the castle of the village. After this you can always head south to the beaches.

A walk at Pyrgos

A truly aristocratic village that combines the picturesque streets and the stunning panoramic views with the neoclassical buildings, the numerous churches and the tranquility. Wander around the medieval castle, one of the five castles of the island and let yourself be carried away in the magic atmosphere of another era. The village is famous for the small tin cans that are lit during the Epitaph procession on Holy Friday.
